Description: Half-length portrait of Maurice de Saxe. Maurice, Count of Saxony (1696-1750) was a notable soldier, officer and a famed military commander of the 18th century. The illegitimate son of Augustus II the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, he initially served in the Army of the Holy Roman Empire, then the Imperial Army, before finally entering French service. (Source: Wikipedia) Ethcing and engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 219 x 144 mm., platemark 152 x 93 mm. Engraved by Antoine de Marcenay de Ghuy, after Jean-Etienne Lyotard. Published by Marcenay de Ghuy and Johann Georg Wille (Paris), 1766. Antoine de Marcenay de Ghuy (Arnay-le-Duc 1721-1811 Paris) was a French engraver. Jean-Étienne Liotard (Geneva 1702-1789) was a painter, draughtsperson, pastellist and engraver. In very condition, some scattered foxing in the margins.
