According to the caption, this painting hung at the World Fair in Paris in 1855. Tinted lithograph on wove paper, sheet size 279 x 366 mm., image size 173 x 240 mm. Lithograph by M.F.H. de Haas after the painting by Louis Meijer. Printed by P. Blommers, The Hague, around 1855. Maurits Frederik Hendrik de Haas (Rotterdam 1832 - 1895 New York City) was a Dutch draughtsperson, watercolorist, lithographer, painter and etcher. He was named painter to the Dutch navy in 1857. In 1859 he emigrated to New York. Louis Meijer (Amsterdam 1809 - 1866 Utrecht) was a Dutch painter, printmaker and draughtsperson, who specialised in naval scenes. He was taught in the Dutch Romantic style of painting by George Pieter Westenberg and Jan Willem Pieneman. Matthijs Maris was one of his students. In good condition. Some scattered light foxing in the margins. A small dampstain in the lower left margin corner.
