Title: Two soldiers near a ruin
Description: Two soldiers, one standing, the other seated on a boulder, in a ruined building with trees and a pond. Etching on hand laid paper, made by Abraham Genoels, after his own design. Dated 1675, Rome. Sheet size 141 x 192 mm. Abraham Genoels (nickname: Archimedes) (Antwerp 1640 - 1723 Antwerp) was a Flemish Baroque painter, printmaker, draughtsperson, and tapestry designer. He is mainly remembered for his landscape paintings and prints. He worked in many places in Europe, including Paris, Rome and Antwerp. A beautiful print, but not in the best condition. Cropped within platemark, a small stain in the top right corner, some minimal paper loss top right, a a small stain in the center of the image, and another above the head of the standing soldier, some soiling in the left edge. References: Hollstein 18 (only state); Bartsch 18. With the collection mark of Friedrich August II of Saxony (Lugt 971) in the lower edge.
