Title: Resting man near a farmhouse
Description: Two states of the same etching, of a man resting against a tree, with a farmhouse and barn connected by a fence in the background. Etching on laid paper, made by Hermanus Fock after his own design, c. 1780-1820. Sheet size 141 x 97 mm. and 118 x 80 mm., platemark 115 x 73 mm. In the earlier state, most of the sky, some of the shadows and the trees in the background are not yet added. Hermanus Fock (Amsterdam 1766-1822 Amsterdam) was a capable draughtsperson and printmaker. Most of his works are landscapes (some with figures), in the region around Haarlem, Amsterdam, Zandvoort and Velsen. From 1816 to 1821 he was a teacher of drawing in Franeker. In excellent condition. An interesting set, clearly showing the progress between the proof printing of the earlier state and the finished state of this print. References: not described.
