Description: Amsterdam, By de Erven van J. Ratelband en Comp., 1734, 8vo., later half vellum and decorative paper binding, with title in black lettering on spine, [20]+256+[8], some browning on the first and last pages and remnants of flyleaf visible on the titlepage of but otherwise in good condition with clear printwork and uncut edges. The later binding is well made (by Firma A. Van Hulzen Boekbinderij, Oudestraat 51, Kampen) with some wear along the edges. Complete with two foldout illustrations (Z. l'Epie delin., Jan Ruyter fecit) and one fold out map (J. v. J. sc.) bound in the back (following the instructions to the bookbinder printed on the page preceding the main work). The map has a small tear along a foldline. With two ex libris prints on the endpapers. One on green/blue paper: "ex libris Mr. J. Nanninga Uitterdijk" (archivist, 1848-1919) and one in black and red: "ex libris GP vd Ven". Gerard van de Ven (1941-2017) was a prominent Dutch scholar, author and professor at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. He was specialised in waterstaatsgeschiedenis (history of water management) and historical geography. He wrote many books, articles and contributed to many publications.
