He was Roman Catholic which explains the purchase of a metal cross amonst other purchases, he founded a steenfabriek in Geertruidenberg (de Donge) and brought several industries to his hometwon. The furniture was most likely intended for his spectacular villa "De Pinksterbloem" that he had built (Oude Stadsweg 1) in 1901.
