Description: Amsterdam (Amsterlodami), Ex Typographia P. & J. Blaeu, Prostant apud Wolfgang, Janssonio-Waesbergios, Boom, à Someren, & Goethals, 1687, 8vo., full leather binding, ribbed and gold tooled spine with title plate, binding has gold tooled edges, book block has coloured edges (red and blue), with original bookmark ribbon, [10] + [18] + 437 pp. + index, some sign of worming (bottom right corner) and with a modern note in the back, but otherwise in very good condition, engraved half title (J. Visscher sculp.), printer's mark on title page ("indefessus agendo" tireless action), some decorated initials, small engaved portraits throughout the text, the book is written in Latin, but words in Greek and Arabic are referred to in the elaborate footnotes, contains two Ex Libris prints: 1) Beilby Thompson of Escrick (died in 1750, the Thompsons were a prominent Yorkshire family), with family crest. 2) A. Pitlo (1901-1987, Dutch professor in law): Plus est en vous. l This is an edition with commentary of the only surviving complete work of the Roman historian Cornelius Nepos (ca. 100-24 B.C.)
