Description: Amsterdam, Erfgen. van de Wed. Corn. Stichter, 1794, 8x5 cm, illustrated parchment binding a classical scene on the front and a ship on the back) with brass clasps and a brass pen, no page numbers, front cover loosened but otherwise in very good condition, first part printed in red and black ink, lots of celestial and animal symbols, printer's mark on title page and decorative woodcut ornaments on the title pages to the other sections of the book: Reys-Wyzer,Tooneel van Afbeeldingen toepaslyk op verscheiden Hollandsche Spreekwoorden (...), Het vrolyk uurtje tot gebruik der zanggezinden (...) and Korte Kronyk beginnende van den Jare 1711. l The first part is followed by some blank pages with a few written notes. The printed almanac is combined with specially prepared paper on which one could write with the silver pencil. These writings could be removed afterwards, to be able to use the pages again. This technique was used in the 16th and 17th century for note-books and sketch-books. Artists like Rembrandt and Goltzius used them to make a removable draft for a drawing or print. Usually the printed almanac was removed from the binding after the year had passed, leaving a usable note book.
