Description: 47th plate of 100 portraying Rome's palaces and ruins and even reconstruction of ancient buildings in Rome. The second state of these etchings were collected in the publication by Peter Schenck:'Roma aeterna, sive ipsius aedificiorum Romanorum, integrorium collapsorumque, conspectus duplex. ' In the 'Aedificiorum Index':'47. Sepulcrum Cestii', view on the reconstruction of the Pyramid of Cestius (18-12 BC), tomb for Gaius Cestius, a magistrate in Rome. During the construction of the Aurelian Walls between 271 and 275, the pyramid was incorporated into the walls to form a triangular bastion. It was one of many structures in the city to be reused to form part of the new walls.
