Description: Portrait of Maerten Harpertsz. Tromp (1598-1653) in an oval made with a double wreath of laurel and palm leaves ending on the top with two trumpets. The wreats are created from two cannons placed on the opposite sides of a cartouche reading:'Martinus Trompius H.F. / Hollandiæ et Occidentalis / Frisiæ Rerum Maritimarum / Vicepræfectus'. On the four corners cannon balls. The cartouche rests on two big sea shells and coral branches. Signed on he bottom:'H. Pot Pinxit I. Suyderhoef Sculp.' l Engraving on paper, trimmed within platemark, pasted on another leaf; print: 406 x 318 mm; total: 475 x 350; right lower corner damaged; singular state.
