Description: Utrecht, Willem Broedelet, 1709, large 4to., originally a full parchment and blind tooled binding with ribbed spine, but the parchment has been removed, so we're left with bare boards with the impressions of the blind tooling still visible. The rest of the construction is still intact, including the handsewn headbands. With the parchment removed we get to peek in on the binding process of the early 18th century. [16]+456+[6] pp., solid construction, darkened pages, without any tears of waterdamage. Compare the other copy of this book in our collection, to see what the parchment binding would have looked like (cf. 70411). With an engraved titlepage (J. Goeree in. et. fec.), an engraved printer's mark on the titlepage (Sum Cuique Tribue, Lamsvelt fec.), some beautiful woodcut endpieces, decorative initials and an engraved portrait of the author (Hoet delin., P. van Gunst sculp.). Text in gothic font, notes in two columns in roman font. Lit: Roberts p. 97; Dekkers p. 120. l Book of legal customs concerning the city of Utrecht. The original text is from 1550, this concerns a publication of 1709 with notes and thoughts by Willem van der Muelen (1659-1739).
