Description: Leiden (Leide), Pierre vander Aa, 1729, 8vo., three full parchment spitsel bindings, [22]+1062+[1] pp., the parchment of volume one is damaged on the top of the spine and the binding has come loose from the bookblock in the back of the book. The construction of the other two volumes is intact. Minor staining. User marks volume one: there is a drawing on the front flyleaf and an ownership signature on the titlepage ("Ulbe Julius van Sixma", 1737-1770). User marks volume two: Ownership signature on the front flyleaf ("UJ v Sixma", again referring to Ulbe Julius van Sixma). User marks volume three: Ownership signature on the back flyleaf ("UJ v Sixma", again referring to Ulbe Julius van Sixma). Each volume has its own titlepage with the same engraved printer's mark (Par Tems. & Vigilance, J.G. del.) Volume one has 11 engravings, volume two has 2 engravings, volume three has 12 engravings. All engraving are fold out illustrations. To name a few examples of the illustrations: there is a world map, a map of Europes and a map of Rome. Volumes one and two concern Europe, volume three concerns Asia, Africa and America. NB: The preface and geographical table belonging to volume 2 has been bound in volume 3. l Three volumes in three full parchment spitsel binding. Rare.
