Following on from her 'The Garden House' which described a year in the life of a small boy in the New Forest during the 1930's, this book takes up the story of Ralph Oliver in 1941, when he is 12, and describes the holiday he spends with Aunt Lizard at the Spring House, a tiny cottage in Sussex.
