Whilst it is sometimes reckoned that the outcome of this battle was stalemate, and notwithstanding a loss of ground, the author puts it forward as an Allied victory He argues that by the successful defence of Ypres by the British regular army, which was wiped out in the conflict, this ruined the Germans because after it, they had no prospect of outright victory.
