Dutch language novel, translated after the first german edition Rohwolt 1927, with some biogr. tendency, with as dramatis personae a german composer and his wife (a singer), fallen into poverty due to the Great Depression, incl. i.a. notes about a japanese neighbour and his home country Japan. Author was a german and american journalist and writer of jewish ancestry, born in Vienna. After the rise of power of the nazi party he was imprisoned in the concentrationcamps of Dachau and Buchenwald, late 1930s. Due to the efforts of his wife Dors, he was released leaving for the U.S.A.
