Georg Everhard Rumphius, of german ancestry, in which a piecures is drawn about his life as a V.O.C. servant, his posting on the Moluccan Island Group and his scientific achievements into natural history of Ambon Island and dependencies, his journeys and tours of duty, correspondence with his contemporaries and scientific results published in some major scientitic works about a variety of topics. Rumphius, originall Rumpf, was a German-born botanist engaged by the Dutch East India Company, in dutch abbreviation V.O.C., posted in what is now eastern-Indonesia, or the Moluccan Island group and beyond. Rumphius is best known for his major scientific work Herbarium Ambonensis, the first publication about tropical plant systems especially focused on the Moluccas. Also his second scientific publication, 1702, is his systematic description, with illustrations, of molluscs and shellfish collected from the Ambon Sea by local assistants.
