Famous dutch literary work, portraying the dutch as they really were in mid 19th century, by which a portrait is painted of the dutch social stratification, public and family life. First edition was published in 1839. The intrinsick value of this work lies in the fact that every dutch who could read was able to recognize his own oddities and quirckness and those of his fellow dutch.
