Dutch language historic novel based on life and times of Jacques Cassard of Nantes (1679-1740), a french able seman and later commanding a frigate as Lieutenant, at the time famous for his career as a licenced Buccaneer (by the french King Louis XIV, 1712-1714) during the Spanish War of Succession. Cassard was sent on a mission to the Caribbean , where he attacked and looted the Portuguese colony of Cabo Verde, Montserrat and Antiqua (Great Britain) and the Dutch colonies of St. Eustace, Curaçao and Suriname. Cassards maritime life was ended by the Utrecht treaty of 1715. Very good copy, NO dustjacket.
