Well documented dutch language scholarly history describing life and times of Lodewijk Pincoffs, a nineteenth century Rotterdam born businessman and financier, member of Rotterdam city council, who took the iniative establishing Rotterdam barbours on Feijenoord Island, the foundation of Passenger line H.A.L. (Holland America Line) and large scale financial transactions and investments. After the discovery of fraudulent finance transactions Pincoffs fled via Liverpool to the United States, where he died at New York September 28, 1911. Later in the 20th century Pincoffs was more or less rehabilitated, a.o. with a statue at Rotterdam city. Still a very important monograph about the history and development of Rotterdam City.
