A female Mama' is the oldest female representative of the oldest generation present in Menangkabou kinshipgroup, only however if there is no male representative available. This phenomenon was noticed in the outcome of the 1935 Dutch East Indies general census, Menangkabau District, Sumatra. Author's presentation copy, marked in ink 'v.d.S' (from the author).
