Flemish language story being extraordinary and unbelievable story of Tijl Uilenspiegel at the Western Front and under German occupation during the First Worldwar or Great War. The name Tijl Eulenspiegel or Uilenspiegel, as a very waggish figure, is recorded for the first time in the 15th century in Germany. It is said however thet Uilenspiegel, a national hero of Belgium, was born and buried at Damme municipality, Flanders. The most known title with as main character Tijl Uilenspiegel is without any doubt the book of Charles de Coster from 1867. In this book Tijl Uilenspiegel was born in Damme under the Spanish occupation and the religious controversy between the Roman-Catholic Church and Protestantism. Since then numberous titles with Tijl Uilenspiegel have been published. This copy, describing Tijl's unbelievable adventures during the first World War is of great interest and rather scarce. Good copy. (voers a bit scratched, especially to lower outer cover, paper a bit yellowing, NO brittleness however).
