Important brochure in which author opposes abolishment of the so-called cultuurstelsel (cultivation-system, 1830-1870), strongly criticizing Baron W.R. VAN HOëVELL, publishing a plea for abolition in his periodical TNI. Author expects bankruptcy and economic disaster in the colony and the motherland, stating thet it is very foolish to kill the hen that lays golden eggs. Text is partly of allegoric nature, thus avoiding legal counter actions, as freedom of press was rather limited in the colony. Rare. (ex-lib. copy, label on spine, stamp on title-p.).
