Reminiscences of a young Dutch girl on the Japanese occupation of Java, her experiences in camps Bangkong (Surabaya) & later in Halmahera (Semarang), incl. het return to Surabaya & notes on the so-called Bersiap period. This edition completely revised, rewritten and expanded after the original published 1965, including an epilogue by author on later events of her life. The title Setengah Mati, which literally means 'halfdead, was dereived after the nickname of a japanese campcommander, administrating beatings to inmates sothat they, afterwards, were almost halfdead.
