Author visits a great number of dutch protestant and reformerd Missionary fields (: Nederlandsche Zendings Vereeniging, Java Comité der Gereformeerde Kerk, Nederlandsche Gereformeerde Zendingsvereeniging, Doopsgezinde Vereeniging, Nederlandsch Zendelinggenootschap Java-Comité, Rijnsche Zendinggenootschap) all operating on Java; on Sumatra (:Rijnsche Zendinggenootschap, Doopsgezinde Vereeniging Java-Comité); Borneo (:Rijnsche Zendingsgenootschap); Celebes (Het Nederlandsche Zendingsgenootschap, Het Sangi-en Talaoe comité); Ternate (:De Utrechtsche Zendingsvereeniging); The Moluccas (: Inlandsche Christen Gemeenten); the Lesser Sunda Islands(Bali, Sumba, Savu, Rotti or Roti, Timor) and finally Suriname (De Moravische Broeders). He describes in short the history and progress of missionary activities, further extensive observations follow on the indigenous population: customs, means of subsistence, family-life, kinship, local agriculture,&c. In a supplementary note follows as description of Krakatau, Wajang and Gamelan, european and local indigenous administration, muslim school-education, opium monopoly and trade, education for european, chinese, japanese and arab children, the malay family and matriarchy, the chinese, the 'indigenous' church, &c. A fine copy. Scarce. (light wear to tail of spine, due to shelving).
