Sharp and fundamental critical essay on the so-called Cultivation-system on Java as introduced by Jean Chrétien Baud, incl. notes on land-tenure, statuary labour and the so-called Private Landerijen, and on the administration of Js. van den Bosch, the then acting Governor-General of dutch colonial Indonesia. From a bibliographic point of view there is some confusion about the true identity of the author (P.Merkus, a former Governor-General). BRINKMAN (dutch national bibliography) sates in the 1835 publication, p.77 that P.Merkus is the author of this brochure, cf.C.D. BUSKEN HUET, Nationale Vertoogen, I-p.125-note(:according to Kemper, Geschiedenis van Nederland na 1830, states that..Een Blik..has NOT been written by P.Merkus).
