The nature of Population in Sarawak is dynamic, both in terms of its mobility and changing self-identification. Hence this attempt to capture the pattern as it existed in 1968, prior to the impact of major economic changes. The material presented here was obtained from a series of field trips during 1967 and 1968, visits to every district of Sarawak. The original intention was simply to provide a supplement of the findings of the 1970 Malaysian Cencus of Population. However, the tabulated classifications for community have been considerablysimplified (even more than the 1960 Sarawak Cencus) and the ethnogtraphic breakdown for the Sarawak is lacking in this detail..(cf. preface).
