Karel Frederik Holle (*Amsterdam, 29 October 1829) arrived with his family in colonial Indonesia 4 Feb. 1844, where he entered the civil service up till 1856 when he submitted, and received, his resignation with honours. He founded in 1862 the well-known Tea-estate 'Waspada', Preanger-residency, where he prepared himself for his future task, that took the rest of his natural life, the improvement of the socio-economic position of the poor and illiterate indigenous farmers (Tani) esp. focused upon the Sundanese population, in which midst he lived. In 1871 he was appointed by the colonial administration to honorary advisor to the government. Holle implemented, a.o., a new system of rice-planting, advanced methods of cattle-and fish-breeding,&c..&c..Amongst his num. publications the Mitra Noe Tani, maybe considered as the most important one.
