As a student he was in the eighties of the 19th century already a zealous advocate of the introduction of Flemish/Dutch in public education. He was ordained a priest in 1888, and was the first to teach Ancient History on the University in 1891. He did not produce great publications, but instead devoted himself to his University and the cause of the Flemish. In 1932/43 Dutch was finally introduced at his university. Sencie received also the title of 'Honorary Prelate of the Pope', which brought him besides an impressive costume, of which he was very proud, as can be seen on the first portrait in this book, also the title of 'Monseigneur', and a coat of arms, which adorns the title of this book) (NBW (Nationaal Biografisch Woordenboek) 6,855/56; See for the title 'Honorary Prelate' and the coat of arms Wikipedia)
