Author: BERKSHIRE. BARTLETT (Alfred Durling) Title: An Historical and Descriptive Account of Cumnor Place, Berks, with Biographical Notices of Lady Amy Dudley and of Anthony Forster, Esq...
Description: Oxford: John Henry Parker, 1850. First edition, 8vo (224 x 135 mm), [8], 147, [1]pp., one plate and one ground plan, with bookplate and booksellers type description pasted in, original cloth, a little faded and worn, printed spine label a trifle soiled. Lady Amy Dudley, or Amy Robsart before her marriage to the Earl of Leicester, died here under suspicious circumstances in 1560. Following her death, Leicester, Queen Elizabeth's favourite, was free to marry. Those opposed to his Possible union with the monarch periodically revived the accusations of his wife's murder. The present work looks at this in depth, as well as supplying all the known details relating to Cumnor Place.
