Title: The Speech of Henry Sacheverell, D.D. upon his Impeachment at the Bar of the House of Lords, in Westminster-Hall, March 7. 1709/10.
Description: London: Printed in the Year 1710. Folio, [4], 24pp., printer's ornament (used by William Bowyer) on title, inner blank margin of the bottom of the pages cut away but not affecting the text, margins shaved close, disbound. In two sermons, one preached at Derby assizes, and the other at St. Paul's, Dr. Sacheverell attacked the Whig government, criticising its toleration of religious dissenters. He was charged with seditious libel, tried, convicted, and sentenced in 1710 to a three-year suspension from preaching. This light sentence was felt to be a triumph for him, although the two sermons were ordered to be burnt by the common hangman.
