Title: Description of the Fumific Impeller; shewing the direct application of Hot Products of Combustion to the Bodies on which they are required to act, without the intervention of Machinery.
Description: London: W. H. Dalton, 1845. First edition, 8vo, [2], 17, [1]pp., 2 folding engraved plates of "Fumific Impellers [air-engines]", disbound. Alexander Gordon, civil engineer, proposed a new form of air-engine that he colourfully called the Fumific Impeller. He insisted that air was the technological way forward, and he claimed that those who suggested that heavy machinery was necessary to harness it's power were entirely mistaken.
