William Yates (15 November 1792 - 3 July 1845) was an English Baptist missionary and orientalist. After joining the Baptist Missionary Society he sailed for India and arrived in Calcutta in 1815. From there "He continued to Serampore to join William Carey (1761–1834), who had been sent out by the same society in 1792, and under his direction began to study Sanskrit and Bengali.
