VG. ¶ This is a sample unmarked printed ballot from the referendum called for by Hitler in support of his dissolution of the Reichstag and withdrawal from the Disarmament Conference and from the League of Nations. Text begins: " Die deutsche Reichsregierung und das deutsche Volk find sich einig in den Willan, eine Politik des friedens, der Versöhnung und der Verständigfung zu betrieben, als Grundlage aller Entschlüsse und jeden handelns..."; and concludes: "Billigst Du, deutscher mann, und Du, deutscher Frau, diese Politik Deiner Reichsregierung, und bist Du bereit, sie als den Ausdruck Deiner eigenen Auffassung und Deines eigenen Willens zu erklären und Dich feierlich zu ihr zu bekennen? Ja / Nein". [From Hitler's 14 October 1933 radio broadcast: "...The German Government is absolutely convinced that its appeal to the entire German nation will prove to the world that the Government's desire for peace and its concept of honor are shared by the entire nation. In order to document this claim I have decided to request the President of the Reich (Reichspräsident) to dissolve the German Parliament (Reichstag) and in new elections and a plebiscite provide the German People with the chance to make a historical statement, not merely by approving of their government's principles but by showing total solidarity with them..."].
