Noteworthy subjects are: Company's relations with Indian rulers and chiefs, particularly the Marathas, the Nizam and Tipu Sultan; Tipu's threats to the Raja of Travancore and the measures adopted by the English to enable their ally to meet the menace; Nizam's cession of Guntur Sarkar to the Company; Company's role in protecting the frontiers of Oudh against the Sikhs and the Marathas, and in settling disputed between the Nawab Vazir and Mahadji Sindia; capture of Delhi by Ghulam Qadir Khan Rohilla and Mirza Ismail Beg Khan, and the atrocities committed by them there; defeat of the Rohilla chief at the hands of Mahadji and retrieval of power and prestige by the latter..." - from the preface.
