Perez Bonalde, a leading Venezuelan romantic poet [& translator of Heine & Edgar Allen Poe] was a political opponent of General Guzmán Blanco who was forced to flee Venezuela and live in exile in New York from 1870-1890. His long 'Poema del Niágara' [contained in this volume 'Ritmos'] was considered by Jose Marti to be his masterwork. - efemeridesvenezolanas website]
