First edition, orig.boards. 24x17cm, xx,(8),216 pp, Consists of 20pp English Introduction; 79pp facsimiles of 313 Persian letters; 67pp English summary + 45pp. 79pp textual facsimiles.. Some minor rubbing, VG. dustwrapper. The collection of letters in the following pages..."Durj-al-Gawahir",that is a casket of pearls, is by Govind Prabhu. He seems to have been in the service of the Chhatrapatis of Kolhapur...Esaji or Esvant Prabhu seems to have been employed in the service of one Shaha Allauddin. It is not possible to identify this Shaha Allauddin. Probably he was a minor dignitary serving under the rulers of Bijapur or Ahamadnagar. Esaji's son Neelkanth or Neel Prabhu seems to have been a good scholar of Persian. He must have joined the service of Shivaji some time in 1660 A.D....It is not known when Neel Prabhu died. His two sons Babaji & Govindrao continued to work under Shivaji & Sambhaji, the rulers of Kolhapur. Most of the letters in this collection seem to have been drafted by Babaji. All these have been compiled together by Govindrao..." [From Foreword by Setu Madhavrao S. Pagdi].
