He also includes lively descriptions of the various weekly markets for fish, butter, poultry, corn, flour, fruit, and wool, as well as of cattle and sheep sent from Wales or arriving in ‘trows’ or barges from counties along the Severn. Unfortunately throughout the book he included the mass of erroneous material that he had received from Chatterton. ... In spite of its many failings Barrett's work was the first complete history of Bristol to be published ...’
