Some light age toning, pencil annotations to lower margin of p.59 and lower pastedown, p.v-vi creased with resultant tear, edges of pastedowns crudely repaired and sl. stained, rebound in two tone boards, edges of boards lightly faded and browned, paper title label to lightly browned and sl. stained spine bumped at tail, uncut. ¶ Apparently the first edition of the above work published in 1819 was the first book to be printed in Ross on Wye. Thomas Dudley Fosbroke [Fosbrooke], (1770–1842), antiquary. ODNB ‘... in 1810 Fosbrooke accepted the curacy of Walford, near Ross, Herefordshire, with the neighbouring parochial chapelry of Ruardean, Gloucestershire; he moved to Walford in 1811. For eighteen years he had studied for eight hours or more a day ... He also wrote tourist guides, the most popular being [the above] (1818; 6th edn, 1841) ...’
