Hinges cracked and shaken, some very light marginal age toning, title page lightly browned and spotted, some sporadic spotting mainly to plates and adjacent leaves, gilt lettered blind embossed green cloth with dec. gilt bands to spine, minor rubbing, corners bumped, spine lightly faded and rubbed with head and tail sl. bumped. ¶ Charles Henry Hartshorne (1802–1865). ‘... Salopia antiqua, a genuinely original archaeological synopsis which may still be consulted with profit, was founded on an extensive and vigorous exploration of his native county: in 1837 he wrote (to [Albert] Way) describing long tramps, of 30–50 miles daily, over the Shropshire hills. The book was in some respects pioneering, for example in its inclusion of material on dialect and place names which were anticipations of later, more systematic work by Georgina F.
