Engraved title page (sm. closed tear with sl. loss to fore-edge) + Contents + 84 engraved plates each with a descriptive leaf unbound as issued. Plates 15, 16, and 21 with marginal waterstain, minor closed tears and soiling, light age toning, minor marginal wear, worn contemporary boards secured with modern green ribbon. ¶ Upcott, p.XXXIII; ESTC T145838 ‘The plates reissued or reprinted by Howlett and Brimmer in C19. The plates are dated between 1779 and 1786. The title page is engraved and has been included in the number of plates. Issued in parts. The text exists in various settings. With a list of subscribers. The final leaf contains an index page, and a page of errata.’ Including 7 Sandy plates, 2 Humphrey Repton plates, and 7 Hearne plates. Between 1779 and 1786, William Watts, an English engraver, published a series of 84 plates, entitled The seats of the nobility and gentry: in a collection of the most interesting & picturesque views. Taken from the originals by artists such as Paul Sandby, the plates depict landscape views of the country estates of the English aristocracy. The details of the architecture, flora and fauna, and even the people on the estate, are intricate and finely wrought and are accompanied by a brief one page text describing the estate. A bound volume of the plates was issued in 1786 by J. and J. Boydell
