Title: A PRACTICAL TREATISE ON THE CULTIVATION OF THE GRAPE VINE On Open Walls.
Description: Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans ..., 1841. 3rd Ed. ix + [i] + 210pp. + [i] + 32pp. publ. catalogue dated June 1843. Some marginalia, light browning, inscription erased to pastedown, gilt lettered blind embossed cloth, minor marking and wear, corners with minor loss, tails of boards sl. bumped, spine chipped with split to tail of lower board. ¶ Clement Hoare (1789–1849), vinegrower, was born in 1789. He cultivated a vineyard at Sidlesham, near Chichester, whence he removed, between 1835 and 1840, to 'Shirley vineyard,' near Southampton. He died at Vauxhall, Surrey, on 18 Aug. 1849, aged 60 (Gent. Mag. new ser. xxxii. 437). He was author of two valuable handbooks: [the above] 2. 'A Descriptive Account of an improved Method of Planting and Managing the Roots of Grape Vines,' 8vo, London, 1844
