Light browning, hinges to volume 1 cracking though firm, original gilt lettered brown cloth, minor marking, spines bumped and sl. frayed. ¶ Ex.-libris [Sir] Henry Mather Jackson of Llantilio Crossenny, Monmouth. With a 4pp. ALS dated April 3rd 1888 to Mrs Taddy Llantilio Crosseny, Monmouth from the Author, lamenting the failure of being able to visit her, and thanking her for useful documents relating to the above work, and discussing incidents relating to the civil war locally. Unfortunately due to the way the letter has been fixed to the rear pastedown of volume 1 not all the letter is currently accessible. John Webb (1776–1869), Church of England clergyman and antiquary. He was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in 1819. Learned in Latin and Norman-French, he was a talented palaeographer.
