Light age toning, contemporary marbled boards with calf corners, minor wear to boards, loss to corners, rebacked in modern calf with gilt lettered label to spine. ¶ Ex.-libris Richard Strachey Ashwick Grove (1781 -1847). The son of Sir Henry Strachey, 1st Baronet (1736-1810), Private Secretary to Lord Clive; and cousin of Sir Edward Strachey, Baronet. He was a scientific man and antiquarian. He published one or two geological tracts, and also wrote a history of Somerset which has never been published. The manuscript is still at Sutton Court in the possession of Sir Edward Strachey, his descendant.
