Lower edge of most leaves lightly waterstained, some sporadic light spotting, upper leading corner of p.341-2 creased, sm. contemporary ink annotation towards tail of title page, marbled e.ps., lower edge of p.539-40 repaired, contemporary calf rubbed with some sl. surface loss in parts, gilt filleted edges with sl. wear at corners, gilt filleted raised bands dec. gilt compartments and gilt lettered leather title label to spine sl. chipped at head, red speckled edges. ¶ Guy de Chauliac, also called Guido or Guigo de Cauliaco, was a French physician and surgeon who wrote a lengthy and influential treatise on surgery in Latin, titled Chirurgia Magna. It was translated into many other languages and widely read by physicians in late medieval Europe.
