Light age toning, with the signature of ‘John Gurney 1842’, original cloth backed boards, some staining, spine sl. chipped with chipped paper title label. ¶ ‘An Account of Goodrich Castle’ with seperate title page and pagination. Apparently the first edition of the above work published in 1818 was the first book to be printed in Ross on Wye. Thomas Dudley Fosbroke [Fosbrooke], (1770–1842), antiquary. ODNB ‘... in 1810 Fosbrooke accepted the curacy of Walford, near Ross, Herefordshire, with the neighbouring parochial chapelry of Ruardean, Gloucestershire; he moved to Walford in 1811. For eighteen years he had studied for eight hours or more a day ... He also wrote tourist guides, the most popular being [the above] (1818; 6th edn, 1841) ...’
