Ravenet after Joshua Reynolds, 49 engraved vignettes engraved by W.N. Gardiner after Samuel Harding. Fly-title to part 1 misbound before introduction, light soiling to fore-edge of leaves, pencil inscription of ‘Leonard Pearce 1972’, marbled e.ps., inner gilt dentelles, period binding, intricate gilt tooling to edges of boards framing a decorative foilage border framing another decorative gilt border with a central abstract style open flower and central embossed emblem, loss to corners, minor repairs to lower board, rebacked with much of original gilt tooled spine laid down and gilt lettered title label, a.e.g. ¶ ESTC N68125 ‘Large paper edition. Twenty-five copies printed (Lowndes).’ In fact by Robert Dodsley, but sometimes attributed to P. D. Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield. A reimpression of the text of the 12° edition of the same date and imprint on large paper and without signatures.
