Relevant newspaper cuttings to blanks at front and rear, age toning, marbled e.ps. and edges, contemporary half calf with marbled boards, some surface wear to boards, blind tooled compartments with gilt tooled raised bands and gilt lettered labels, some loss to head of upper joint and spine of vol. 2. ¶ First published under the title ‘Spain in 1830’ in 1831. Henry David Inglis (1795–1835), traveller and writer. ‘Inglis's travel books met with commercial and critical success, but also with condemnation. Richard Ford described him as one of the travel writers 'who note down, print, and publish tales of horror … got up for the occasion by people who are laughing at them up their sleeve' and said of Inglis's Spanish works 'the tricks played on poor Mr Inglis and his note-book were the laughter of the whole Peninsula ...' ODNB.
