Plate 10 cropped and restubbed, plate 5 with marginal closed tear and sl. chipped with neat silking along fore-edge, frontis. with sm. repair to fore-edge, sporadic light browning, marbled e.ps., rebound in modern green half morocco with cloth boards, gilt lettering to spine, a handsome volume. ¶ Abbey Scenery 30. (Large paper copy). ‘Coloured aquatints. Also issued uncoloured.’ Tooley, pp.139; Martin-Hardie pp.140-1; Prideaux pp.339. John Hassell (d.1825). Water-colour painter, engraver and drawing-master. He drew many views of local scenery, which he engraved himself in aquatint, most of them coloured. They were published in various topographical works.
