[as is often the case the listings do not exactly match the contents, i.e. our set is without 2 listed folding maps, but with 1 folding plan and 1 plate not listed]. Light browning, marbled e.ps., contemporary triple gilt rule edged calf, some minor loss to corners, some marking, joints cracking with several taped internally, dec. gilt compartments and modern amateur gilt lettered labels to spines chipped with some loss to heads and tails and centrally to vol. 8. ¶ Blackmer 365. Many of the plates are after drawings by Prédaux, who sold them to Clarke when they met whilst Lusieri and Prédaux were working for Lord Elgin in the Troad. This work also describes Clarke's travels in Scandinavia, Moscow, Constantinople, Syria and Palestine, and includes a catalogue of the library of the monastery at Patmos, and essay on Greek libraries by Walpole and excerpts from Heber's account of his travels in Russia and the Crimeâ.
