Light browning, institutional bookplate, ink stamps to t.ps., occasionally to text and to recto of plates, rebound in cloth with manuscript cloth title label to spine. ¶ Georges Balthazar Sage (1740-1824) metallurgy, assaying chemistry. ‘Except as founder of the Paris Éole des Mines, there is little reason to rate Sage as an important scientific figure. He published extensively, often hurriedly, and—toward the dismal end of his life—usually for self-serving purposes.
